What it is

This project is a static recompilation of the Wii U version (US or European) of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. The PowerPC code is translated to C ahead of time, the Cafe OS libraries are reimplemented natively and GX2 graphics are implemented directly on Metal (macOS) or Vulkan (all platforms), with no Cemu runtime.

The project has three parts: the port, a decompilation of the code and a catalogue of mods installed from inside the game. It contains no game code, assets or keys: everything is generated on your machine from your dump. It is a fan project with no affiliation to Nintendo.

What you need

Your original copy: Your own dump of the game from your Wii U disc and console: a .wux or .wud image, a Cemu archive (.wua) or an extracted folder (US or Europe, version 0). The project does not include game data.
  • Windows, Linux, macOS (Apple Silicon) or Android (arm64).
  • On Android, the setup app builds the game on the phone.
  • The project's README does not publish minimum hardware requirements in this section; the first preparation of the game takes about two minutes.

How to install and run it

  1. Prepare your dump of the game (disc, Cemu archive or extracted folder).
  2. Download your system's zip from the releases page (the "Go to the official project" button) and extract it anywhere.
  3. Open "Wind Waker HD" and pick your dump: the first start prepares the game once and later starts launch it directly.
  4. Mods are installed from inside the game.

Current limitations

  • Releases are published often, including development builds; check the releases page for the current one.
  • The build from the decompilation is experimental.
  • On Android, the project says the game must be built on the phone with its setup app.

Port or emulator?

If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a Nintendo Wii U emulator: Cemu and its install and setup guide.
