What it is

Dusklight is, in its repository's words, “a reverse-engineered reimplementation of Twilight Princess”. It aims to match the original game closely while adding new options and tools. It is based on the Twilight Princess decompilation, which currently matches only the GameCube version.

According to its official website, it runs at higher resolutions and frame rates than the console, offers “authentic” or more modern gameplay options and includes an advanced mod system. It is available for Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS and Android through the Aurora layer.

It includes no game data: you must provide a dump of your own copy. The project warns that its official website is twilitrealm.dev and that any other website is not affiliated.

What you need

Your original copy: A dump of your own copy of the game. It supports all commercial discs except Wii's Korean release. The project does not include game data.
  • At a minimum, a GPU with support for D3D12, Vulkan 1.1+ or Metal.
  • Older devices get “best-effort” support for D3D11 and OpenGL ES (Android), without the same accuracy or performance.
  • Results may vary by hardware, operating system and driver.

How to install and run it

  1. Dump your own copy of the game (the project's README links a dumping guide).
  2. Optional: convert the .iso to .rvz with Dolphin or nodtool to save space.
  3. Download and install Dusklight from the official website (the “Go to the official project” button) following its installation guide.

To build from source, the repository includes instructions in docs/building.md.

Current limitations

  • Wii discs run with the GameCube HUD and other GameCube-specific behavior, because the base decompilation only matches the GameCube version.
  • Older GPUs will not reach full accuracy or performance.

Port or emulator?

If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a GameCube emulator: Dolphin and its install and setup guide.
