Cemu is an open-source Wii U emulator that lets you run the console's games on your computer. This page offers the Windows version, plus a quick guide to installing and configuring it. To play you need the Wii U game files (ROM or ISO), which you can find in the ROMs section of this site.
Cemu requirements
- 64-bit Windows 10 or 11.
- A graphics card that supports Vulkan 1.1 or OpenGL 4.5. Vulkan is recommended whenever your card supports it.
- Up-to-date graphics drivers.
- As a reasonable starting point: a modern multi-core CPU and 8 GB of RAM.
- Game files in WUD, WUX, WUA or RPX format.
How to install Cemu step by step
- Download the file with the download button on this page.
- Extract it into its own folder, for example
C:\Emulators\Cemu. Avoid protected folders such as Program Files.
- Run
Cemu.exe. A first-time setup wizard opens on the first launch.
- Set the folder where you keep your games in Options > General settings > Game paths, or load a game directly from File > Load.
- Double-click the game to start it.
Recommended settings
- Graphics: in Options > General settings > Graphics, choose Vulkan as the graphics API if your card supports it.
- Controller: set it up in Options > Input settings. Cemu works with a keyboard, Xbox controllers and other Windows-compatible gamepads.
- Graphic packs: from Options > Graphic packs you can download and enable community packs to change the resolution or fix game-specific issues.
- Sound: if you hear nothing, check the audio section in the options.
Common problems
- Black screen or crash on launch: update your graphics drivers and try the other graphics API (Vulkan or OpenGL).
- Stuttering in the first minutes: this is normal. Cemu compiles shaders as you play and performance improves in later sessions.
- Game missing from the list: check that the folder is added under Game paths and that the file is in a supported format.
