What it is

SpaghettiKart is a native PC port of Mario Kart 64 from the HarbourMasters team, from the same family as Ship of Harkinian. It is not an emulator and it does not include any copyrighted assets: you must provide a supported copy of the game.

It supports three rendering APIs: DirectX 11 on Windows, OpenGL on every system and Metal on macOS. There is also a Nintendo Switch version, which reuses the data file generated first on a PC.

What you need

Your original copy: Your own ROM of the US version (the only one supported), in .z64 format. SHA-1 of the US ROM: 579C48E211AE952530FFC8738709F078D5DD215E. The project does not include game data.
  • Windows (zip), Linux (AppImage; zenity or kdialog must be installed) or macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel).
  • The project's README does not publish hardware requirements.

How to install and run it

  1. Check that your ROM is the US version and in .z64 format (if it is in .n64, the project links a tool to convert it).
  2. Download the latest release from Releases (the "Go to the official project" button) and extract every file from the zip into a folder.
  3. On Windows, run Spaghettify.exe and select your US ROM; on Linux, run spaghetti.appimage (you may need chmod +x) and select your ROM. This generates the mk64.o2r file.
  4. Launch the game and start racing!

Current limitations

  • Only the US ROM is supported; other versions are not.
  • The ROM must be in .z64 format.
  • Its latest published release is 1.0.0 (February 25, 2026); the repository is still receiving changes.

Port or emulator?

If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a console emulator: see emulators and its install and setup guide.
