Metroid Prime PC Port (MetroidPrimePort)

Native port of Metroid Prime (GameCube) for Windows, Linux and Android, built from the PrimeDecomp decompilation. It is not an emulator and you need your own copy of the game.

WindowsLinuxAndroidmacOS (experimental)

What it is

MetroidPrimePort is a native PC and Android port of the GameCube game Metroid Prime. It is built from the PrimeDecomp decompilation and renders through Aurora (SDL3/WebGPU). Its README is explicit: “there's no emulator involved”.

It offers graphics options such as field of view (FOV), MSAA and anisotropic filtering. It includes no game content: neither a disc image nor any package or release of the project contains one. Metroid Prime is a Nintendo trademark and the project is not affiliated with Nintendo or Retro Studios.

Copies (forks) of the repository exist under other accounts with the same name: always make sure you download from the repository linked on this page.

What you need

Your original copy: Your own Metroid Prime GameCube disc image: USA 1.00, 1.01 or 1.02 (GM8E01) or PAL (GM8P01). The Japanese and Korean releases, Wii Trilogy and Remastered are not run as the base game. The project does not include game data.
  • Windows, Linux or Android. On macOS it is “experimental” and untested on real hardware.
  • Accepted image formats: .iso, .gcm, .rvz, .wbfs, .ciso and .nkit.
  • The README does not list minimum hardware requirements.

How to install and run it

  1. Download the build for your system from the repository's Releases page (zip for Windows, AppImage or tarball for Linux, APK for Android).
  2. Open the app and choose your disc image when prompted; it remembers your choice.

To build from source, follow docs/NATIVE_PORT.md in the repository.

Current limitations

  • Importing assets from the Remastered edition is marked experimental.
  • macOS has not been tested on real hardware.
  • On a GNOME Wayland session, startup may hang; the project suggests the SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 variable.
  • An image that is not a supported revision produces an “unsupported disc” error.
  • The README does not state a final (1.0) release; check the status in Releases.

Port or emulator?

If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a GameCube emulator: Dolphin and its install and setup guide.
