What it is

This project rebuilds Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories (PS1, USA) from its decompiled source as a native PC game for Windows and Linux, with a macOS ARM64 source build. It is not a static recompilation: the game code was decompiled by hand into C that matches the original byte for byte, then ported to PC.

It offers up to 4x internal resolution, widescreen and HD text, 3D monsters, an optional "Forbidden Memories HD" pack, a mod framework and editor, save slots, a fusion helper and the text of the European releases in five languages. It is not an emulator and it does not include any game assets: you must provide the data from your own copy.

What you need

Your original copy: Your own image of the US Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories disc (.bin file), picked on first launch. The project only includes the text of the European translations. The project does not include game data.
  • Windows or Linux (ready-made build).
  • macOS on Apple Silicon: source build with Python 3.
  • Building on Linux needs gcc and python3.
  • The README does not publish hardware requirements.

How to install and run it

  1. Download the latest release from the releases page (the "Go to the official project" button), extract it and run memories-pc.exe (Windows) or ./memories-pc (Linux).
  2. On first launch, pick your USA disc's .bin.
  3. To use an emulator save, copy the memory card file into the port's saves folder and choose LOAD on the title screen.

Current limitations

  • The published releases are called "preview" (the latest, 0.3.1, is from October 2026).
  • Only the USA disc is supported.
  • On macOS you must build from source.
  • The repository does not specify a license.

Port or emulator?

If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a console emulator: see emulators and its install and setup guide.
