An open-source reimplementation of X-COM: Apocalypse in C++ and SDL2, with full modding and human-readable savegame editing. It requires the original game’s files.
OpenApoc is an open-source reimplementation of the original X-COM: Apocalypse, written in C++ and SDL2 and released under the GPL-3.0 license. It was founded by PmProg in July 2014 and has grown a significant community. It offers full modding capability (you can add or change almost anything, to make it more balanced, diverse or immersive) and human-readable savegame editing.
It needs the files from the original game: the project makes clear it does not encourage or support illegal use and strongly advises buying it on Steam or another platform; pirated disc images are not supported and cause crashes and map problems. GigaROM hosts neither the engine nor the game; the download comes from the official page.
If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a console emulator: see emulators and its install and setup guide.
