Silent Hill: Downpour PC Port (DownpourRecomp, Xbox 360)

Silent Hill: Downpour (Xbox 360) natively on Windows, at 1080p and 60 FPS with keyboard and mouse, with no emulator. You need the ISO of your own copy.

Windows

What it is

DownpourRecomp lets you play Silent Hill: Downpour natively on Windows, at 1080p and 60 FPS with keyboard and mouse, with no emulator. It is a static recompilation of the Xbox 360 executable. The published package contains only the host program: it does not include default.xex, game data, music or Konami or Vatra assets.

Since 1.1.7 it includes a first-run installer that asks for your own ISO and extracts the data, no longer requires AVX2 (it works on pre-2013 CPUs) and has mouse look on raw input.

What you need

Your original copy: Your own Silent Hill: Downpour ISO (Redump, XGD3), which the first-run wizard extracts for you. The project does not include game data.
  • Windows 10 or 11.
  • A Direct3D 12 GPU; version 1.1.8 fixed a startup failure on Windows 10 and older Windows 11.
  • Any x86-64 CPU with SSSE3 (since 1.1.7).

How to install and run it

  1. Download the latest Windows release from the releases page (the "Go to the official project" button).
  2. Open PlayDownpour.exe.
  3. On first launch, a wizard asks for your ISO and extracts the game data.

Current limitations

  • Only a Windows build exists.
  • Version 1.1.7 did not start on Windows 10 or older Windows 11; 1.1.8 fixes it.
  • You need your own ISO in a supported format (Redump, XGD3).

Port or emulator?

If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a Microsoft Xbox 360 emulator: xenia and its install and setup guide.
