What it is

Silent Hill – Native PC Port is a native port of Silent Hill (PSX, 1999) built on the decompilation project. It uses PsyCross, a PsyQ SDK compatibility layer, as its hardware abstraction. It runs as a real Windows or Linux executable compiled from the decompiled C source: it is neither an emulator nor a static recompilation. According to the project, the full game can be completed and the remaining known bugs are minor.

At default settings it plays like the original; everything else is opt-in: any resolution, widescreen, high refresh, PGXP perspective correction, filters, a flashlight with shadows, alternate cameras (third-person, over-the-shoulder), character swaps with glTF models, achievements and fan translation support. There are builds for Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS and Android, and a web version. Linux and macOS support is still a work in progress (on Linux Wine is recommended). You need the data from your copy of the game. GigaROM hosts neither the port nor the game; the download comes from the official page.

What you need

Your original copy: The data from your copy of Silent Hill (PlayStation). The project does not include game data.
  • Windows (recommended); Linux and macOS in progress (on Linux, Wine recommended), also Android.
  • The data from your copy of the original PlayStation Silent Hill.

How to install and run it

  1. Download the latest build from the official page (“Go to official project” button).
  2. Open the launcher and point it to the data from your copy of the game.
  3. Adjust the optional enhancements to your liking and play.

Current limitations

  • Linux and macOS support is a work in progress.
  • It needs the original game’s data.
  • Builds update in real time: they can change daily.

Port or emulator?

If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a console emulator: see emulators and its install and setup guide.
