A native LÖVE2D recreation of eleven Pokémon games (Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald). The engine is hand-written Lua and the data comes from your own ROM.
G1R Deluxe (a.k.a. Gen1Recomp) is a native LÖVE2D recreation of Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. The engine and map behavior are hand-written Lua, ported from the pret disassemblies and C; game data, graphics and audio programs are decoded on first launch from a ROM you supply. Music, sound effects and cries are synthesized while the game runs.
The project does not include a ROM, emulate the Game Boy or download a disassembly: your ROM is verified, used during import and released from memory; it is never copied into the cache. You can import all eleven games side by side, each in its own launcher tab, although second-generation support is still under construction. There are builds for Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS. Warning: the author states that the website gen1recomp[.]com is not official and impersonates the project; the only official sources are the GitHub repository, the Discord and gen1re.com. GigaROM hosts neither the program nor any ROM; the download comes from the official page.
If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a console emulator: see emulators and its install and setup guide.
