What it is

OpenOMF is an open-source remake of One Must Fall 2097, Diversions Entertainment’s robot fighting game. The original 1994 DOS game uses IPX networking, which is a pain to set up, so the community needed a better solution to keep playing it. Along with networking, the project tries to make it easier to play One Must Fall “in its original glory” on multiple platforms (Linux, macOS, Windows and BSD, to name a few).

It is distributed as an AppImage and .deb package for Linux, and as packages for Windows and macOS. GigaROM does not host the game; the download comes from the official page.

What you need

Your original copy: See the project’s README for the game data needed. The project does not include game data.
  • Windows, Linux (AppImage or Ubuntu .deb package) or macOS.

How to install and run it

  1. Download the package for your system from the releases page (“Go to official project” button).
  2. On Linux, make the AppImage executable (chmod +x) or install the .deb; on Windows, extract the zip.
  3. Open OpenOMF and play, solo or over the network.

Current limitations

  • The published release is labeled “Latest”: it updates continuously.
  • For installation details on each system, see the project’s README.

Port or emulator?

If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a console emulator: see emulators and its install and setup guide.
