What it is

dhewm 3 is a GPL source port of Doom 3, known to work on at least Windows, Linux, macOS and FreeBSD. Its goal is to bring Doom 3 to all suitable platforms with the help of SDL, fixing the original’s bugs without altering its gameplay. Changes include a 64-bit build, SDL for the system, OpenGL and input, OpenAL with EFX effects, gamepad support, better widescreen support and a mod-independent settings menu (F10).

The code includes no game data, which remains covered by the original license: you need your own copy of Doom 3. GigaROM hosts neither the port nor the game; the download comes from the official page.

Port or emulator?

If your computer does not meet the requirements, you do not have the exact version the port asks for, or you prefer the classic route, you can play the original with a console emulator: see emulators and its install and setup guide.
